The KDP is a private non-profit 501(c)3 business association. We work as partners between the downtown businesses, property owners, residents, City of Kent, and the Kent Chamber of Commerce.
We are affiliated with the state and national Main Street Program, which was founded by the National Trust of Historic Preservation in 1977.
To accomplish our goals, the KDP follows the Four Points of the Main Street program - Organization, Design, Promotion, and Economic Development. We receive some government funding; however, we rely mostly on volunteers and private contributors to carry out our vision and mission for downtown Kent.
We believe a strong, thriving downtown is important to everyone. It provides very real, tangible benefits to its residents, service providers, financial institutions, retail businesses, property owners, utilities and preservationists. A prosperous and friendly community generates new and repeat customers, increases property values, helps reduce vandalism, and increases safety.
